We stayed out of trouble (well sort of)...I so get that! Us too.
Good Morning Wini. I will revisit this period in subsequent posts as we explore the roots of culture, and how lifelong friendships are made. Maybe even a podcast on handbell repair..=-)
Big thanks for your comment. And yes, Anita is one of the really good ones.
This is wonderful! I was also very lucky to be part of a youth music organization: the Grace United Methodist Church choir. We stayed out of trouble (well sort of) and made life-long friends. One of which is your friend and mine, Anita Micich, who was an integral leader of our youth group for many years. Thanks so much for this, Dart!
I've gotta check these comments earlier in the day. Thanks Paul and thanks Phil. Haha. Look for an update to the post soon I just found my digitized copy of the World's Fair recording.
So great to be reminded of your YMCA Boy's Choir connection. Fran and Marlow Cowan had such a powerful impact on so many people. I was so pleased to get to know them through their son, as you put it, "baby Scott." He was a trumpet student of mine for many years, and has been Professor of Jazz Studies and ensembles at Western Michigan University, for many more.
A terrific guy and a wonderful student and friend for me-
It's hard to do a search for the Mayo Clinic, without running across Fran and Marlow's viral video of them playing in the clinic atrium in their 90's. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TUma-9YC32Y
It's just a taste of the love they shared with all those they came in contact with-
G'mornin' If you haven't already, check the post again. Just uploaded songs from our album from '64 World's fair. You especially Phil will appreciate the piano playing of Marlow Cowan.
I appreciate these stories, and I especially enjoyed getting to know more about Dr. Robert Shreck, whom I had the pleasure of meeting at Julie Gammack's Iowa Potluck podcast on Monday. I'm learning so much about the Iowa south of where I grew up (Goldfield, Iowa) in the 1950s and 60s. Des Moines was the BIG CITY I seldom got to visit. So cool to, all these years later, learn more of the people and the history of the BIG CITY down south.
If you haven't rechecked this post, please do. There are now several songs from our 1964 album from the World's Fair in NYC. By the way, LOVE YOUR BAND.
💖 the recordings! Quite the tempos on some of those tunes and songs! Contradance or Gwich'in Jig speed for sure! What a time that must have been for you boys. 🙏🏼 for the recordings!
Big thanks for your attention Kayt. There are more stories to come. Wow Goldfield not that far from Fort Dodge where my Grandmother Lettie lived for many years.
Fun story Dart!

I remember when that video came out. I got the DVD too.
Teaching through storytelling! Thanks, Dartanyan.

How're things out there in Montana today? Huge thanks to you for reading. You tell some good stories too!
2 balmy degrees, brother! Aren’t you glad we all got to visit Cali this year?!
