It was an informative, straight-ahead discussion of the current state of Des Moines Public Schools with issues including funding challenges, curriculum dynamics, cell phone policy review and probing questions from citizens in attendance. The 90-minute session, gave both Dr. Roberts and the community members a chance to get to know each other and to perhaps see ways for the community to partner with DMPS as they all seek to support and sustain quality public education in the face of today’s considerable political headwinds.
The first 45 minutes was a “state-of-the-System” progress report followed by a Q&A session of approximately the same duration.
[Tech note: The audio is, for the most part, sufficient but the background noise (darn those expresso machines) did obscure few places during the discussion.]
