Democratic Party candidate Sarah Corkery Challenges Ashley Hinson in Iowa's 2nd District Congressional Race

It’s now 48 days until the election. I’m reposting Sarah Corkery’s talk to Hardin County Democratic Party activists. Her message is clear, strong and true exactly the kind of character suited to these times.

The 2024 Iowa 2nd Congressional District race pits incumbent Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa Falls) against Sarah Corkery (D-Dunkerton/Iowa Falls). Sarah will engage Hinson in a televised debate October 14 on Iowa Public Television. (Thanks Jen Sinkler for that tip)

We can feel the change in the political temperature. It’s a change in consciousness. When true leaders retain their humanity to focus on service to their entire community anything is possible .

Sarah Corkery’s story is not an easy one but it reveals a person with immense personal integrity, humor and courage, exactly the opposite of the MAGA foolishness that Hinson represents.

Sarah describes herself as a truth teller with an immense well of empathy for those who support public education and sane healthcare in Iowa. (At 11 minutes in, she talks truth about the process of running for congress as a Democrat in Iowa.)

Sarah Corkery’s candidacy represents a second chance at redemption for the Iowa Democratic Party. I have a feeling that Iowa Democrats (and those who vote with them), will not waste a second opportunity to put a leader like Kamala Harris in office, and more importantly, to send representatives like Sarah Corkery to congress to make the point. Seeing how fast the Obama ‘coalition’ evaporated in Iowa, I would hope that this time they’ll act to embrace and extend what she and Barack represent: Leaders who understand the simple truth that we’re all human, no matter the hue, man.
