A 32-minute Sonic Palette Cleanser

Do we really need any more words at this point?

After noticing how vaguely irritable I was getting this week, the solution was to step back and mix up a 30-minute, 5-part music and ambience set as the antidote audiodote to help settle my nerves. (Please find a comfortable place to listen - headphones/decent speakers highly encouraged)

The pieces in the set are titled:

  1. Venus and Mars Walk into 24 Bars Together. (a 1978-style Funk-Jazz statement) 9:24

  2. Angry Sky - A short (57 seconds) sample of ambience composed for Yorame Mevorach’s brilliant 7even Stories High installation commissioned by the Des Moines Art Center for their well-received IMMERSIVE Project in the Summer of 2022.)

  1. Enter The Queen - 4:50 I love this luscious bit of synthery. It’s a sweetly sonorous homage to the ever-unfolding grace of my daughter Marisha.

  2. Yayoi {1} - 14:30 This one is dedicated to Yayoi Kusama the acclaimed Japanese visual artist who really knows how to make a point….lots of them. The original working title of this piece was Kaleidoscope as I perceived the sounds as shiny tonal objects floating within a reflective space.

  3. Pillow of Cloud - 4:25 I really needed something to clear my mind-palette after ingesting too much political flotsam. Many of you can relate I’m sure.

Taking this opportunity to express my gratitude to those musicians who reached down and reached back to help me get serious about the music over the last 5 decades. Big respect to Harlan Thomas, Sam Salomone, Don Archer, Bobby Parker, Speck Redd, Frank Tribble, Butchie, John Grguric, Dannie Nicholson, Rod, and, of course GT Clinton. I was fortunate to grow up in Des Moines with a Bebop Dad, A Classical Mom and a bunch of Rock’nRoll, R&B and Jazz-mad young thugs to get in “good musical trouble” with. Enjoy.
